Finances

Finances are an important determinant of health. Here are some resources and tips on how to save money, how to earn more money, and what to do in case of a financial emergency.

Resources

The Registrar’s Office is committed to helping students access post-secondary education. Visit their Aid & Awards for Indigenous Students page for information about government aid, navigating OSAP,  scholarships, bursaries and other resources.

Learning how to save and spend money can be challenging. Luckily, there is help! Mac’s Money Centre offers tips, tools, workshops, and counselling services to help you achieve your financial goals.

Employment Opportunities

If you would like to obtain a part- or full-time job while studying at McMaster, check out teaching or research assistant positions on Mosaic. If you’re eligible for OSAP or can demonstrate financial need, you can also apply for jobs on Mosaic through the Work/Study Program. Finally, be sure to check out employment opportunities at the McMaster Students Union.

Visit the Student Success Centre if you would like help improving your resume or cover letter. Many faculty-specific services also offer help with this (co-op offices, etc.).

Limited job opportunities through the Work/Study Program are available at Indigenous Student Services. Jobs are typically posted on Mosaic in August. Contact the Indigenous Senior Advisor for more information.

For information on opportunities with indigenous student services please visit the current students page.

Search for off-campus jobs on OscarPlus (specifically for McMaster students) or check out the job posting site Indeed. Many local businesses also hire students. Start by checking out those in Westdale or University Plaza.

Financial Emergencies

Despite our best efforts, sometimes expenses pop up that we could not have predicted. So what happens when emergencies come up and you have no money left over for food or rent? A good option is to contact the Indigenous Student Success Advisor in L.R. Wilson Hall, Room 1811.
