Meet Sarah, Indigenous Wellness Counsellor
Sarah Thorne (she/her), Irish and Kanyen’kehá:ka (Mohawk), Tyendinaga, Turtle Clan, Registered Psychotherapist.
I am here to support Indigenous students at McMaster in navigating the unique challenges of academic life, personal growth, and mental well-being. University years can be exhilarating yet demanding, and I am passionate about helping students build resilience, manage stress, and develop healthy coping strategies.
With a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and a minor in Indigenous Studies from Wilfrid Laurier University, along with a Graduate Certificate in Concurrent Disorders from Mohawk College and currently completing my Master of Social Work in Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency through the University of Toronto. I have firsthand experience of the challenges and pressures Indigenous students face and bring a compassionate, culturally sensitive and trauma-informed approach to my practice. My approachable and understanding style creates a safe space for students to explore their concerns, find clarity, and thrive in their academic and personal journeys.
Whether you’re seeking guidance through life’s transitions, coping strategies for stress, or tools for emotional well-being, I am here to support you every step of the way. Together, we can create a personalized wellness plan to help you thrive physically, mentally, and emotionally.
